EMPOWER
At Provost Farm, we empower individuals and families by providing the tools, resources, and knowledge necessary to cultivate sustainable agricultural practices. Through workshops that focus on regenerative and indigenous farming methods native to South Louisiana and West Africa, participants gain skills that enable self-sufficiency and resilience. We also develop initiatives such as seed sharing, tool swapping, and logistical support for local farmers, fostering a network of mutual aid and cooperation. By connecting communities to their agricultural roots and equipping them with practical knowledge, we create opportunities for economic growth and personal empowerment.
PRESERVE
Preservation is at the heart of Provost Farm’s mission to honor and protect the legacy of Black sugarcane farmers. Through our archival projects and historical exhibits, we ensure that the stories, struggles, and contributions of Black farmers are not lost but celebrated. We are committed to creating permanent records and rotating art displays that reflect the rich history of farming in South Louisiana. These initiatives not only preserve the cultural heritage of the land but also serve as a beacon of truth, combating stereotypes and misinformation with narratives of unity and resilience.
UPLIFT
Provost Farm is dedicated to uplifting the community by fostering equity and inclusivity in agriculture and beyond. By transforming underutilized spaces into thriving gardens and gathering areas, we provide a platform for education, collaboration, and growth. Partnering with local schools, HBCUs, and community organizations, we teach the next generation the importance of land stewardship and food justice. Collaborations with the hospitality and spirits industries amplify the voices of farmers while creating avenues for economic opportunities. Through these efforts, we aim to inspire pride, connection, and hope within our community.
