A Nonpartisan, Registered 501(c)(3) Organization.

who we are

At Provost Farm, we are dedicated to empowering the next generation of farmers through education, hands-on training, and a focus on sustainable agriculture that supports economic growth and self-reliance.

Rooted in the rich legacy of Black American sugarcane farmers and family values of South Louisiana, we develop practical, innovative solutions to agricultural challenges while fostering a strong, resilient community where opportunity thrives.

“I’m a fourth-generation farm owner and a proud multi-generational farmer. My ancestors planted and harvested sugarcane under the brutal weight of enslavement, and they continued through the struggles of freedom. Their resilience and determination are the roots of everything I cultivate today.” — June Provost

OUR STORY

The Provost Farm Heritage Center and Community Garden was founded by Angie and June Provost, multigenerational sugarcane farmers in South Louisiana, to honor the rich legacy of sugarcane farming while promoting sustainability and opportunity for all. Inspired by their personal journey of perseverance and success in an industry full of challenges, the Provosts created this nonprofit to empower individuals and strengthen the community.

Rooted in generations of agricultural wisdom, the center celebrates the contributions of hardworking farmers, shares practical and innovative farming techniques, and addresses challenges to ensure a thriving agricultural future. By revitalizing a once-abandoned warehouse into a vibrant community hub, the Provosts provide resources, education, and opportunities to help individuals and families—regardless of their background—develop a strong connection to the land and build a sustainable future.

OUR community

Provost Farm Heritage Center and Community Garden is nestled in New Iberia, Louisiana, a region rich in cultural heritage and agricultural tradition. Located at the Port of Iberia, the center is surrounded by the vibrant, marshy landscapes of South Louisiana, an area historically tied to sugarcane farming and deeply influenced by the contributions of diverse communities. The demographics of New Iberia reflect a blend of cultures, including Black American, Indegenous, Cajun, and other communities that have shaped the region’s identity over generations.

It’s location serves as a bridge between this rich history and a future of inclusivity and progress. By transforming a once-abandoned warehouse into a thriving hub for education, cultivation, and community engagement, Provost Farm is committed to addressing the needs of this diverse population. Whether through workshops on sustainable farming practices, partnerships with local businesses, or programs to support under-resourced individuals and families, we strive to create opportunities for everyone in our community to connect with the land and one another.
